My work has arrived safely (phew!) at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis for the New Ceramic Surface Design Show that's being curated in part by the incredible ceramic artist and designer, Molly Hatch! Last year Molly featured my work along with many other amazing ceramic artists in her book called 'New Ceramic Surface Design', so this show highlights all the ceramic artists she included in the book! The day before I had to ship it all off, Joey Armstrong & I scouted around the back of my old studio building 1000 Parker st. to find a cool spot to photograph the work. It was a 'make do with what we had' kind of shoot, but the best part was that it was the first (and last) warm and sunny day in February. I sent this batch of mugs and a few vases to the show which opens March 3- April 3rd. It's my first time having work at the NCC gallery so it was an honour to be invited and included! Sadly I won't be there for the opening (that low Canadian dollar is really getting me down these days), however if you happen to be in the neighbourhood, please snap a photo for me!
As for other news: there's a new all-Canadian Ceramic website that has just launched called Make and Do featuring a small but sturdy little crowd of ceramic movers and shakers! The brain child of Carol Epp aka Musing about Mud, and Mariko Paterson aka Forage Studio, this website hopes to feature the best of ceramics from across Canada both with it's core members (me included!) and also with it's monthly guest artists. Furthermore, we are creating a map that includes ceramic artists, guilds, and galleries that feature ceramic artists as a central spot for people to find ceramics in Canada. It is a big endeavor and there will be a lot of opportunity for growth down the road so we are starting small knowing the sky's the limit once something good starts to grow. The online shop will feature 5 items each month from all the core members and those items will only be available for that month online. The shop opens March 1st and I have been very busy in the studio making new work for that! I'm so excited to be included as a core member, and at the same time, it is requiring a bit more of my time this month. I've taken a wee step back on the wholesale side to get prepared for that (and to finish up work for the NCC show) so I am behind on launching new work for the wholesale season. Not to worry, all in due time is what I keep telling myself. Please check out the Make and Do blog where you can get to know it's core members!
Lastly, I hope to finally get some new stock back up in my own webshop, which has been mostly sold out since the New Year. Clay takes a bit of time and I needed to finish up a few orders from last year so I wipe the slate clean. There is a lot of great new work that's on the glaze shelf or drying out but I will likely hold off until the 2nd week in March to put the work online. In the meantime, if you see anything you like on my instagram feed or on my website, don't hesitate to send me an inquiry! I'd be happy to make it for you! Until next month!
