Grid Diagonal Soda Mug

55.00

A wheel-thrown mug from my most recent Soda firing, this mug has a soft grey grid pattern in a diagonal on both sides. Especially ‘blasted’ from the Soda firing, this mug has an ancient look to it with the pattern hinted at beneath layers of grey and soft hues of green. Measuring about 4.5” tall and 3” wide, this mug holds a generous 14 oz of the beverage of your choice.

Soda firing is an atmospheric firing technique where “soda” is introduced into the kiln near top temperature (2350°, ∆10). The soda vaporizes and is carried on the flame throughout the kiln. The soda vapors create a glaze when it lands on a piece (or a kiln post, or the wall of the kiln). Wherever the flame travels- so does the soda. The results in the Soda kiln can’t be recreated and each piece is one of a kind.
