Printed Mug Soda/Salt fired

55.00

A wheel-thrown mug from my most recent Soda/Salt firing, each mug has a mono-printed pattern on the lower half, with a pale yellow glaze on the top half. Measuring about 4” tall and 3” wide, this mug holds a generous 12 oz of the beverage of your choice.

Soda/Salt firing is an atmospheric firing technique where Sodium Bicarbonate and Salt is introduced into the kiln near top temperature (2350°, ∆10). The soda/salt vaporizes and is carried on the flame throughout the kiln. The soda vapors create a glaze when it lands on a piece (or a kiln post, or the wall of the kiln). Wherever the flame travels- so does the soda. The results in the Soda kiln can’t be recreated and each piece is one of a kind.
