Short and wide Dot Soda Mug

48.00

I recently took part in a Soda Firing class and am excited to share a small selection of work from this rare opportunity! Since I had a very limited amount of space in the kiln, each piece is completely one of a kind.

This mug embodies a warm and earthy sensibility.  A subtle porcelain slip pattern and green dots make this mug quite special.  Depending on where it was located in the kiln, there are varying parts where the dot pattern falls slightly from the spray of soda that we inserted into the kiln at a high temperature.  The soda acts like a glaze and becomes a lovely crackled pale green where thick.   Wheel-thrown in a Stoneware clay, this kiln fired to Cone 11 (2293 Fahrenheit) in a Soda firing gas kiln! Numbered as shown, left to right!
